    Critical Reflection

     

    Dr Phil Chambers,

    Senior Consultant in Creative Arts, Reflective Learning – UK (RL-UK)

     

    Dr Chambers has worked in a number of European, Indian and African contexts, using the power and potency of reflective learning to improve individual and team performance.  He is known internationally as a leader in enabling individuals and groups to develop strengths, creativity, resilience, well-being and positive emotions.  His methods of positive engagement are derived principally from his background in dance, theatre and drama. He uses these to encourage individuals and work groups, to appreciate both their gifts and talents and to address personal and professional growth points in a realistic and supported way.

     

    He has published widely in the area of reflection for personal and organisational development and has participated in a variety of collaborative projects, in both developed and emerging nations. He is currently working is the areas of personal effectiveness, team work and  leadership. He is also interested in the links between working life, working ethically and organisational development. He has chaired the Reflective Practice Thematic Interest Group for the European Teacher Education Network’s annual conference for five years and was joint founder of the International Reflective Practice Research Group in 2001.

    In this podcast Dr Phil Chambers, in conversation with Dr Graham Steventon, explores the importance of reflection in enabling critical thinking. In particular the discussion identifies the relationship between some of the principles of critical pedagogy and critical reflection, of the importance of locating self in the learning process, of voice, dialogue, respect and creativity.

    the different kinds of reflective practice and
    the purposes they serve,

    reflection and the generation of knowledge in particular professions,

    the way reflection is taught and learned most meaningfully,

    the links between reflection and the quality of workplace action.
